What are Shards?

Shards are earned by creators when they receive participation in StreamDrop events hosted by them. Creators distribute Gems to fans every time they host a StreamDrop.

Shard rewards are then calculate based on the amount of Gems distributed for the day, a target of 200,000 Gems for 100% Shard rewards.

1 Gem distributed by Creator= 1 Gem received by user

40 Gems distributed by Creator = 1 Shard received by Creator

When creators claim Shards, they also earn Experience points (XPs) similar to how users gain XPs from earning Gems as well. Creators can only earn a maximum of 5,000 Shards per day if they hit 100% target distribution.

How many Gems can be distributed?

For the first experience that we are rolling out, there will be a Base Gem and Bonus Gem rewarded to fans who participate in the StreamDrop.

Base = 250 Gems

Bonus = 500 Gems

Base Gems are given out by the Stream team and Bonus Gems by the creators through their quota.

How to Earn Shards?

Creators have a target of 200,000 Gems to be distributed per day in order to achieve 100% of Shard earnings for the same day. Only 100 top participants will earn the bonus Gems based on their score per StreamDrop, this means that the maximum amount of Gems that can be distributed per StreamDrop is 50,000 assuming full distribution.

This implicitly mean that creators need to host a minimum of 4 StreamDrops per day with good engagement to achieve their daily targets

The shard rewards for the creator is then based on the amount of Gems distributed. For example:

a Creator distributes 120,000 Gems for the day, the amount of shards he will earn will be calculated using (120,000/200,000)*5,000 = 3,000 shards equivalent to 60% target reached for the day

What happens when the Gems quota is reached?

Creators can still continue to host StreamDrops in order to distribute Gems to their fans but they will no longer gain any extra shards. Note that any additional shards earned after the limit is reached will not rollover to the next day's claim.

How to claim Shards?

Similar to stream points, but this time creators can claim their shards on the creator dashboard Activity tab instead.
